Claimed to be the most beautiful building in the world, Dubai’s award-winning Museum of the Future was also one of the most complex. Soaring over seven-storey’s, the 78m tall oval-shaped gleaming silver structure is hailed as a supreme example of man’s ability to innovate and construct beyond the limits of accepted engineering and construction methodology.
Just three days after the Museum’s high profile official opening in February 22, the Museum’s retail shop, the subject of this entry, opened its doors for the first time. Nestled within the monumental structure, the museum shop is designed as an integral part of the overall structure – the final touchpoint of the visitors’ journey. It was designed to sit seamlessly within the structure – its distinctive curved features following the same complex topology as the main building interior.
The MOTF Retail area was a highly detailed project, which required a range of different solutions in order to sit comfortably with the complex multi-curved internal lining system, developed by Gyproc’s technical experts for the main Museum structure. The final specification involved a range of high-performance Gyproc partition and lining systems, including GypWall CLASSIC and GypWall QUIET acoustic partitions, GypLyner IWL lining systems and Gyproc MF suspended ceilings. Installed, to a very high standard of finish, by drywall, ceilings and interiors specialists, Acclaim Interiors, the total value of Gyproc Products supplied was 800K AED.

The key challenge of the project was identifying different wall types of the project that could be engineered to provide commercial benefit to the contractor while maintaining the performances and wall thickness and heights schedule.
The scope involved multiple curved walls with radius upto 1200mm and lesser. Innovative solution had to be adhered considering Glasroc X tolerance of board bending.
Repeated change of performance requirement of the project required multiple workshops with contractors to size the right solution.
Delivery of custom size studs based on the site requirement within short duration of time.
The project approvals required a good amount of time as the proposed system had to meet every norms of the specification right from standards to the LEED requirement of the project.
