Project description
The team of KAEFER Construction GmbH revitalised the former factory building of the German state railway which was originally built between 1870 and 1890. Close-by is one of Berlin’s largest inner-city development areas called “Mediaspree” and therefore the new concept for RAW consisted of 40 multifunctional rooms for various purposes such as film, music and sound productions which can be rented by the hour. In close cooperation, KAEFER, Rigips and an acoustic engineer designed a completely unique drywall system was with 4 layers of Rigdiur® H gypsum fibreboards in combination with a steel sheet. The sound measurements taken by the acoustic engineer confirm an extraordinary sound insulation of 98 dB, creating almost absolute silence without disturbing sounds from adjoining rooms. Besides the top performance, this unique system offered many installation advantages for KAEFER which lead to major cost and time savings. Furthermore KAEFER has meanwhile received many enquiries for similar projects with this special Rigidur® sound insulation system.

The project was executed by Marcel Segebarth and Mario Heß who is working in of the branch in Dahlewitz (near Berlin).

Key Challenges
To develop a unique and more economic system for the studio walls and gain the tender against a competitor by using Rigidur® gypsum fibre board. Very short net construction time for the 40 studios of only 4 months.
