Başakşehir Fatih Terim Sports Complex

TurkeyTurkeyCompany Name: Ekkon İnşaat

Project description

Başakşehir Fatih Terim Sports Complex is a huge complex that encompasses a stadium, a hotel, training grounds, a gym, meeting rooms and shops. The stadium within the sports complex is the first and only one built according to FIFA standards in Turkey and also earned a LEED Gold certificate for its sustainability features. Here, the constructor developed a plastering method for the curvilinear block walls; a method which served to speed up the work. This provided an advantage because the President of Turkey demanded this sports complex to be completed earlier than the planned deadline, meaning there was a very challenging time frame for the completion of this project. Another challenging aspect was the incorporation of lighting and surveillance systems within the plasterboard ceilings.

Contractor

Ekkon İnşaat

Ekkon İnşaat was founded in 2011 as a private company by Fethi Özyaman who has been working for the construction sector for over 30 years. The company delivers the best results through it’s high quality workmanship and by using the best products in the country. Ekkon İnşaat has been present in several large-scale projects in Turkey as a contractor or a subcontractor.

Key Achievements

  • Project converted from iron box to galvanized metal profiles
  • Developed a new method: Plastering curvilinear block walls
  • High quality surface
  • Work finished in shortened time

Key Challenges

The contractor had to speed up the work because the project needed to be completed before the planned deadline. Wall and ceiling heights reach up to 9 metres which made plasterboard and plaster applications challenging. In addition, they had to plaster the curvilinear block walls and a perfectly smooth surface was required. Also the suspended ceilings were supposed to be connected to the pre-cast concrete slab by iron box profiles according to the original project. That would cause cracks on the plasterboard suspended ceilings when the pre-cast concrete slabs moved by the weight of a moving crowd. The contractor had to persuade the project manager to use galvanized metal profiles that would allow flexibility and work perfectly with the slab.
