Great Minster House

United KingdomUnited KingdomCompany Name: Stanmore Limited

Project description

Great Minster House comprises a total of 61 new private apartments with magnificent high ceilings, parquet floors, terraces and a 24-hour concierge. All the apartments have full height feature doors and individually designed living spaces as standard. The bedrooms have plush wool carpets underfoot and fitted wardrobes with internal lighting, while the open-plan living areas come with engineered parquet flooring and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the rooms with light. Key features of the project are the specifically designed living spaces that work well for both laid-back family time or for entertaining. Maximising the use of space was a key driver for the client to maximise property value. Furthermore, a high end design specification meant building tolerances were required to be better than the national Building Regulations. The specification strived for perfection to accommodate design features and high-end luxury finishings that the target buyer would expect.

Key Achievements

  • The design and construction restraints involved when working to refurbish an existing building, coupled with the extremely tight client programme and having to manage the interfaces with the other interior and exterior contractors, is a clear demonstration of the level of commitment and team work across the team.
  • This is a real example of the type of service Stanmore are able to provide to the industry in terms of design, development and construction of dry-lining and plastering packages. The consistent support provided from the grass roots stages of cost budgeting and design through to completion on site has helped Stanmore become one of the leading sub-contractors in the UK.

Key Challenges

Working to an extremely tight client programme, Stanmore commenced on site in July 2014 and completed in March 2015 taking only 8 months to complete, for periods having in excess of 140 men per day on site. As a refurbishment project Great Minster House provided a number of unique challenges from the start. Thanks to Stanmore’s close working relationships with both Barratt London and British Gypsum, they were able to develop working methods to overcome each challenge and meet the ambitious deadline.
